Memphis has one of the most tight-knit and welcoming Jewish communities in the American South. Centered in East Memphis, the Orthodox community offers everything a Torah-observant family needs, all within a compact, walkable neighborhood.
The community is small enough that new families are welcomed personally and integrated quickly, but large enough to support three Orthodox congregations that collaborate closely with one another, a full-service mikveh, a Pre-K through 12th grade Jewish day school, the Memphis Kollel, a Kollel Torah MiTzion shlichim family, a Yoetzet Halacha, and a network of Jewish organizations serving the broader Memphis Jewish population.
Memphis's Jewish history stretches back to the early 19th century, and today the community is actively growing — more than 100 new Jewish families have moved to Memphis in the past five years alone. Young families are discovering that Memphis offers a quality of Orthodox Jewish life that is rare, affordable, and deeply meaningful.
MHA is the heart of the Orthodox community's educational life. A Pre-K through Grade 12 Orthodox Jewish day school with a dual Torah and General Studies curriculum, MHA serves families from across Memphis and attracts families who relocate specifically to give their children a quality Jewish education in an observant community.

The Memphis Orthodox community is compact, and that is one of its greatest strengths. When a new family arrives, they are known. The rabbi knows their names. The neighbors bring over Shabbos food. The kids at MHA make friends immediately. There is no anonymity here, and most families come to treasure that.
Despite its size, the Memphis Orthodox community has all the essential infrastructure: three congregations (including daily minyanim), a full-service mikveh, a Yoetzet Halacha, a Kollel, a Pre-K through 12 day school, a community eruv, and a network of federation resources.
Perhaps the most practical advantage: in Memphis, a family can afford to live well, send children to MHA, give tzedakah, and still have resources left over. The cost of Orthodox Jewish life in Memphis is a fraction of what it costs in New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago.
